Dear Friends,
2010 is a year to celebrate. We celebrate that Hospice of Palm Beach County continues to be the provider of choice for most families seeking hospice care in Palm Beach County. We celebrate that our reach is expanding, as we help a growing number of families in southern Palm Beach County. But mostly, we celebrate each and every life that has touched our hearts throughout the year.
The staff and volunteers have dedicated themselves to create a warm and compassionate environment for each person in our care, and they become like family to us. Our own family grew this year, as we cared for more patients and, gratefully, engaged more volunteers than in 2009. Needed funds were raised for Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation, which had a record fundraising year thanks to the many philanthropists who support us through our community events, online fundraising, outright gifts and planned giving. For the first time, a fundraising event was held in Boca Raton, FL, and we received an outpouring of support from the community. And we, as staff, supported our cause generously, pledging over $90,000 since 2009 to Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation, because we so clearly believe in our mission.
We saw growth in serving other hospices around the country through Hospice Partners on Call, allowing us to provide real-time support to people in need, 24/7, wherever they reside.
We launched our innovative Shared Care program, which created a team approach to patient care from the doctor, to the nurse, to the social worker to the chaplain. Coupled with our efficient and cost effective move to electronic medical records, we ensure that all care team members have access to critical information - information that allows us to serve the patient with compassion and respect.
All that we do drives to one mission: To create a world where everyone receives great service at the end of life and no one is afraid of dying. We will continue to advance initiatives to meet that mission; you can read more about these accomplishments and many others on the pages that follow. Our goal is to help more families, over an expanded area, so that we can continue to celebrate the lives we touch into the next decade and beyond.
Sincerely,
John Marino, Chairman
