Gail Austin Cooney MD was appointed Vice President of Access Services in October 2012. Dr. Cooney was the senior medical director for Hospice of Palm Beach County from 1992 to 2008. She returned in 2012 to oversee hospice admissions, and is a strong supporter of our vision to provide hospice care to everyone who wants and needs it.
Dr. Cooney graduated from the Mayo Medical School and trained in Internal Medicine and Neurology at Emory University. She did a Neuro-Oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City before moving to West Palm Beach in 1984. From 2006-2011, Dr. Cooney served as a member of the board of directors of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and was elected to lead the organization as its president in 2009-2010. She now serves as president of the organizing board of the Hospice Medical Director Certification Board, a newly formed, national not-for-profit that is developing a new certification examination for hospice medical directors.Dr. Cooney is board certified in Neurology and Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
