Fundraiser Will Feature Political Satirist, Journalist P.J. O’Rourke

With Florida’s voter registration deadline fast-approaching, attendees of the Hospice Heart Luncheon will have the opportunity to register to vote at the event itself, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 7, at the Hilton West Palm Beach.

A representative from the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections office will be in attendance for anyone who wishes to register before the Oct. 11 deadline.

America’s leading political satirist, journalist and author P.J. O’Rourke will be the featured speaker at the event which will begin at 11:30 a.m. After he speaks, O’Rourke will engage in a Q&A session with attendees.Tickets (priced at $150 per person and $1,250 per table of 10) may be purchased by calling (561) 494-6888 or by visiting www.hpbcf.org.

Presented by PNC, all proceeds raised from the Hospice Heart Luncheon will benefit Hospice of Palm Beach County Foundation and Hospice by the Sea Foundation.

Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, Jeff Atwater will serve as the event’s Honorary Chairman. A fifth-generation Floridian, Atwater was first elected Florida’s CFO in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. His commitment to public service began in 1993, when his hometown of North Palm Beach elected him Vice Mayor. Atwater has also served in the House of Representatives and as President of the Florida Senate.

A Toledo, Ohio native, O’Rourke is the H.L. Mencken Research Fellow at the Cato Institute and is a regular correspondent for The Atlantic Monthly, The American Spectator, and The Weekly Standard. He has been a frequent panelist on National Public Radio’s game show Wait Wait….Don’t Tell Me! and has also been a columnist at The Daily Beast since 2011.

O’Rourke is the author of 20 books, including Don’t Vote, It Just Encourages the Bastards. Using his signature wit and keen observational skills, the book reflects on O’Rourke’s 40-year career as a political commentator, spanning his confused hippie youth to his current state of right wing grouch maturity. The book is a hilarious and sobering look at why politics and politicians are a necessary evil – but only just barely necessary (www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/16446901-don-t-vote---it-just-encourages-the-bastards).
